Your Community. Your Community Foundation.
Unique among non-profit organizations, the San Juan Island Community Foundation provides knowledge and expertise on both sides of the philanthropic exchange. We distribute grants to support and advance local nonprofit activities and projects. We identify current and emerging issues. We find ways to address those short and long-term needs and help San Juan Islanders benefit from a wholesome future.
In late 2008, the Community Foundation created the Critical Needs Task Force (CNTF) to bring people and organizations together, county-wide, to discuss, address and respond to the impact of the economic downturn on the Islands. The CNTF continues to be a powerful organizing and action-focused tool for our small community. Many of these work groups continue to meet on a regular basis.
The San Juan Island Community Foundation was established in 1994 by a diverse group of islanders who wanted to support the quality of life on San Juan Island. They saw important work being done by local nonprofit organizations and recognized the value of investing in their own community. Over the years, more than 300 families, estates, individuals and organizations have used the Community Foundation to support their giving and the quality of island life.
Our mission is to provide exceptional philanthropic guidance and service to our donors. Whatever your charitable budget, we are here to help you give wisely and have the impact you want.
The San Juan Island Community Foundation is a federally qualified 501(c)(3) organization and is registered with the Secretary of State in Olympia, Washington.
