Start Your Own Fund

Empower Your Giving

You can take control of your charitable giving in a simple and comprehensive way by partnering with the Community Foundation to create your own ‘charitable checking account’.   The Foundation’s only mission is to “connect donors who care with causes that matter”.  No longer is charity simply about helping individuals who are less fortunate, although that still really counts. Philanthropy can be about changing the world in bold and dynamic ways. You can have direct and thoughtful impact in your community in ways that match your passion, your vision and your needs.

Explore and Create the Fund Best for You

You can create your own Fund that can be custom tailored to your own goals and mission. Funds are simple to start, easy to manage and provide embedded investment services and quarterly reporting. You can choose Funds that allow you to closely manage your account or others that use the Foundation’s expertise to allocate the money where it is most needed. You can target your Fund to specific projects, to specific charitable organizations or to areas-of-interest such as “The Arts”, ”Education” or the “Environment”. The following types of Funds are available.

Donor Advised Funds

Donor Advised Funds offer the most flexibility and control of giving and tax benefit planning and implementation.  Donors can take advantage of personalized gift planning consultations without charge. Many of our fundholders consider this type of fund as their ‘charitable checking account’.

Designated Funds

Designated Funds can be established to specifically benefit the work of one or more nonprofit organizations over time while giving immediate tax benefits.

Scholarship Funds

Scholarship Funds leave long lasting benefits to the community through university and career training awards. You can create your own or contribute to one of the existing offerings.
