One act of kindness from you can inspire countless others. We invite you to learn about current local issues, share your own passion and expertise and join with others to help strengthen our community.
Created in 2008 by the Community Foundation to bring together nonprofits, public organizations, service groups and interested individuals, the CNTF was established at the cusp of the economic downturn to assess the most critical needs of our community and citizens and explore long term solutions. The CNTF was divided into workgroups, led by community experts, in most of the areas that make up a healthy community.
You are invited to join in these continuing conversations with the goal of establishing priorities for our community and, with the help of the Foundation implement the infrastructure that will assure that our local society thrives.
The Community Foundation has initiated its own projects that address specific needs that emphasize a targeted and collaborative strategy. These initiatives seek to leverage resources among funders to maximize the power of philanthropy.
Find out more about these major community initiatives and how you can participate and make a difference:
- Improved Access to Healthcare for all Islanders: Peace Health Peace Island Medical Center
- Broadband: High speed digital technology is a fundamental component to our future community infrastructure. Better broadband access is essential to support existing and new businesses, create new entrepreneurial opportunities and enhance emergency services including the delivery of healthcare, social services and education.
- Public Transport: Access to critical services is increasingly being limited by rising costs and our economic turndown. Planning for a Friday Harbor ground transportation system that serves the new medical center, the town center, the Labs, Skagit College and the airport is underway.
