2018 Fair Match – Hospice of San Juan – Volunteer Training

The Community Foundation will match 50¢ on every dollar up to the goal amount of $4,500.

Hospice of San Juan (HSJ), providing compassionate care to families, friends and neighbors on San Juan Island for over 30 years, is an all-volunteer organization relying on the generosity of the community to provide services at no cost to the patient or family.  Volunteers provide support, encouragement and much needed “breaks” to at-home caregivers, grief counseling to help families cope in the difficult time following a loved one’s death, a telephone Call Line if care questions arise, and a full inventory of medical equipment and supplies available at no cost to any member of our community.

In order to ensure the highest level of care, we offer annual training as well as continuing education.  There is great community interest in paid and informal caregiver training and self care (all shown to have a positive impact on end-of-life experience and use of the health care system), and HSJ is uniquely positioned to provide a wide range of training to the entire community.  We are raising funds to help pay for the 3 day training course that draws instructors from all over the state.
