Susan Matthews, Operations Manager & Fund Development Coordinator

Following 15 years in the broadcast industry in St. Louis, MO, Susan moved with her husband Stan to Portland, OR, to be closer to family and to establish a political consulting business. The sale of that business 13 years later allowed them to realize their long-held dream of becoming San Juan Islanders in early 2007. Susan feels fortunate to have landed the first paid position at San Juan Island Community Foundation as Program Coordinator and now fulfills the duties of Operations Manager and Fund Development Coordinator. Daughter Tami and son-in-law Chris live in Portland with granddaughter Amelia; they travel north for family visits at regular and welcomed intervals. Black lab Taco Marv also shares the Matthews’s island home on five rough-and-tumble acres next to American Camp and can frequently be seen greeting visitors at the front door of the Foundation.
