Laura Sandstrom

Laura is a sixth-generation islander who became a full-time resident of San Juan Island in 2009. A Graduate Gemologist by trade, Laura spent eighteen years traveling throughout the country while working and exploring the many facets of the jewelry industry – from national sales rep to designer, buyer, appraiser and business owner.

Laura started a career in banking in 2010 with Whidbey Island Bank, now Heritage Bank. Her role as an executive officer in a community bank suits her commitment to exceptional customer service, relationship building and giving back to her beloved community. She is a former Treasurer for United Way of San Juan County and has served on the boards of Kiwanis International in Friday Harbor and Soroptimist International. Laura joined the board of the San Juan Island Community Foundation in 2017.

Laura and her husband, Thomas, have two adult daughters and a young son. She is a passionate advocate for adoption rights and the rights of people on the Autism Spectrum. Laura loves mission work, her favorite trip being a mission to Honduras with her eldest daughter, where they built a water purification system and painted a local orphanage in 2009. When not working or volunteering, Laura can be found with her family at the beach, watching her husband’s band at local venues, or reading.
