Cornerstone Society

Our Cornerstone Society members are the heart of our organization, providing sustaining funds for our general operating fund year after year. These special donors are critical partners in our mission.

Why give to operations?

When you contribute directly to our operating fund, you’re making an investment in SJICF’s ability to serve the entire community. Operating support covers the essential costs of running the organization—staff, technology, outreach, and grantmaking infrastructure. These contributions ensure the foundation can:

  • Strengthen community impact by effectively managing charitable funds and distributing grants where they are most needed.

  • Support local nonprofits through training, resources, and partnerships that multiply donor generosity.

  • Respond quickly to emerging needs such as disasters, economic shifts, or new opportunities for community growth.

  • Sustain long-term vision by maintaining a stable, professional team dedicated to stewarding charitable dollars responsibly.

In short, it’s a way of “funding the engine” that makes all our community work possible.

Membership Benefits

In return for your support, you have access to a variety of enhanced donor services, including:

  • Invitations to special educational events and our annual Cornerstone member appreciation event (typically held in July), where you can connect with other Cornerstone members, the SJICF staff and board, and nonprofit partners in our community
  • Recognition (if you desire) of your dedicated commitment and sustaining contribution to the lives of San Juan islanders
  • Periodic reports on specific projects and services funded by Cornerstone Society members
  • Access to our extensive executive team knowledge related to local nonprofits and projects, local philanthropic opportunities, planned giving options

Membership Levels

  • Partner (minimum) — $1,000/year
  • Steward — $5,000/year
  • Champion — $10,000/year
  • Sustaining — $25,000/year

Joining is easy!

You can join Cornerstone by making your donation online or sending a check made out to SJICF with “Cornerstone” in the memo line. Checks can be mailed to SJICF, PO Box 1352, Friday Harbor, WA 98250.
