Hospice of San Juan regularly provides caregiver training to its volunteers, since one of its primary services is caregiver respite. While providing caregiver respite, they have witnessed non-licensed, or informal, caregivers in homes who need such training to protect themselves and their clients from injury. Additionally, they receive frequent requests from families for paid caregivers, which is not within their scope of practice. To address this need, Hospice of San Juan was awarded a grant to offer a combined training program for both volunteers and on-island informal caregivers.
