Strengthening Our Community: Our New Leadership and Enhanced Roles

The San Juan Island Community Foundation (SJICF) is taking significant steps to enhance our community impact. As part of our ongoing commitment to community enrichment, we have restructured our staff roles to better serve local nonprofits, donors, and community members effectively.

New Executive Leadership

In March, Amy Saxe-Eyler joined the foundation as the new Executive Director. Amy has been instrumental in reshaping staff roles to align more closely with SJICF’s mission: to cultivate a sustainable future for the San Juan Island community through strategic collaboration and informed giving. Amy’s leadership is poised to invigorate the foundation’s strategies and operations.

Transition in Roles

Carrie Unpingco, the former Executive Director, has transitioned to the role of Relationship Manager. In her new capacity, Carrie will focus on deepening the foundation’s interactions with nonprofits and donors. Her efforts aim to enhance understanding of community needs and foster greater collaboration across various sectors.

Operational Leadership

Katie Stringer steps into the role of Program and Administrative Manager. As the primary point of contact at the foundation, Katie will not only manage the scholarship programs but also enhance administrative support and technology within the foundation’s operations.

New Board Leadership

The foundation welcomes John Moalli as the new Board Chair. A dedicated Friday Harbor resident, John brings a wealth of experience from his volunteer work, including engagements with Spring Street International School and San Juan Island School District. His leadership is expected to drive forward the foundation’s initiatives in arts, education, animal welfare, and environmental conservation, as well as tackle critical issues like affordable housing.

A Unified Vision

“We are excited to embark on this new chapter in SJICF’s journey, guided by our shared vision for a more vibrant, equitable, and resilient San Juan Island community,” stated Amy Saxe-Eyler. With robust support from the board and active participation from community partners, SJICF is well-positioned to address the collective needs of the community effectively.
