The San Juan Island Community Foundation is proud to share the positive impact of a recent project – Neighborly Nourishment Wall at Friday Harbor Food Bank. This project is supported by a grant from the San Juan Island Community Foundation and has become yet another valuable resource for island neighbors to find assistance information in our community.
A Community Informed and Empowered
“Our goal was to transform the Food Bank into a hub where anyone could find help and information when they needed it most. We’re thrilled to see that nearly every survey participant discovered a new program or service through the Wall,” explains Rachelle Radonski, the Food Bank Director. “This initiative underscores the importance of accessible information, especially in challenging times.
“One of the most important results of this project is that people now know where to turn when times get tough. All but one person who participated in our survey learned about a new program or service offered on our island. That’s amazing progress!”, said Rachelle.
Fostering Community Connections
Beyond providing essential information, the Neighborly Nourishment Wall has also encouraged community interaction. “We’ve seen wonderful submissions of recipes from our customers, which we proudly display on our customer’s corner board. It’s these personal touches that truly bring our community together,” Rachelle added.
As a supporter of initiatives that enrich and empower our community, the San Juan Island Community Foundation is delighted by the success of the Neighborly Nourishment Wall. “This project not only meets immediate needs but also strengthens the partnerships in our community for supporting our neighbors seeking assistance. There are so many overlaps, and this is a great example of sharing support program information in an accessible way,” said Amy Saxe-Eyler, Executive Director of the Foundation.
