Development Director

The San Juan Island Community Foundation is dedicated to making a positive impact on the San Juan Island community by providing excellent donor services, grants to nonprofits, and scholarships to students to support the health and sustainability of our community. We rely heavily on fundraising to sustain our programs and services, and we are seeking a Development Director to lead our fundraising efforts.

Position Overview: The Development Director will be responsible for planning and implementing a comprehensive fundraising program that includes major gifts, corporate and foundation giving, planned giving, and special events. The successful candidate will work closely with the CEO to develop SMART fundraising goals and strategies that align with SJICF’s strategic plan.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the CEO to develop and implement comprehensive fundraising strategies to meet the organization’s annual revenue goals
  • Build trust-based relationships within community, including current and prospective donors, nonprofit partners, staff, board, and volunteers
  • Identify and cultivate major gift prospects, as well as corporate and foundation donors
  • Plan and execute special events that engage donors and raise funds for community nonprofit organizations
  • Manage a Development Associate, providing guidance, training, and support as needed
  • Develop and execute effective donor communications and marketing materials
  • Monitor and analyze fundraising data to evaluate performance and adjust strategies as needed
  • Lead efforts to research and identify potential grant opportunities for SJICF and nonprofit partners

Qualifications:

  • Commitment to the mission and values of SJICF
  • Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, business administration, or a related field
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, with a proven track record of success in major gifts, corporate and foundation giving, and special events
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building abilities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write compelling donor communications and marketing materials
  • Proven leadership and management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, board members, and volunteers
  • Experience with fundraising software and donor databases
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and goals
