28% of San Juan County residents are over age 65, double the statewide 14%. Senior Services Council of San Juan County and Mullis Community Senior Center help older people remain independent by offering meals, transportation, social activities, and other services. Since 1997 your Community Foundation has given these organizations over $48,000 to help support their programs.
Our beautiful islands are beloved by residents and visitors alike. Organizations such as Islands Oil Spill Association, The San Juan Nature Institute, The Whale Museum, and Wolf Hollow work hard to provide education, protection, restoration, and rehabilitation for our environment. Since 1999 your Community Foundation has granted over $150,000 to support their programs.
Islanders are lucky to have such outstanding schools. But tax dollars do not always cover the basic needs, let alone the extras. Since 1999, the Foundation has given over $500,000 to the San Juan Island school district to help ease that gap. Help us continue to support our schools by making a donation.
A healthy community provides a network of services to meet basic social needs. We need to catch people before they fall through the cracks and provide them with tools to strengthen their lives and economic resilience.
The Community Foundation is proud of its role in championing this significant accomplishment and all it will mean for our community. Peace Island Medical Center offers expanded doctor visits; a specialty clinic; enhanced diagnostic services; a cancer-care center; 24-hour ER and an inpatient hospital.
